The Powers Accounting Machine Company (1911-1927), also known as the Powers Tabulating Machine Company , was founded in Newark, New Jersey in 1911 and was a manufacturer of tabulating machines .

In Russia -born James Powers was in 1907 by the US Census Bureau hired to help the government, the cost-intensive tabulating by Herman Hollerith replace. Although Hollerith had many patents in this area, Powers developed a cheaper and faster tabulator that was compatible with Hollerith's punch cards . The US government allowed Powers to claim the patents. Powers left the agency and founded the Powers Accounting Machine Company in 1911.
