The Rand Kardex Company (1925-1927) , also known as Rand Kardex Bureau Inc. , was a manufacturer of office supplies and filing cabinets .

history

The Rand Kardex Company was founded in 1925 through the merger of The American Kardex Company and The Rand Company . The Rand Company was founded in 1898 by James H. Rand and mainly produced clear filing registers. In 1921 the son James Rand Junior founded the American Kardex Company and manufactured steel cabinets (Kardex) for storing the registers. The two companies faced fierce family competition. When the Stahlkabinette celebrated a resounding success in the market, the father got into the same business as the son. In 1925 the family dispute was resolved and the two companies merged to form the Rand Kardex Company .

Acquisitions

Merger to form Remington Rand

In 1927 Rand Kardex Bureau Inc. merged with Remington Typewriter Company and Powers Accounting Machine Company to form Remington Rand . The Rand Kardex Company was incorporated as the Remington Systems business unit.

The aftermath of Remington Rand

In 1955 Remington Rand was taken over by the Sperry Corporation . In 1978 the Remington Systems business unit was sold and a new company called Kardex Systems was founded, later Kardex AG , which still manufactures Kardex products to this day.
