Pre-auricular appendix
A preauricular appendix is a lobule-like appendage in front of the auricle that consists of skin , connective tissue or cartilage tissue . The malformation alone is harmless, but can occur together with genetic diseases (e.g. cat's eye syndrome ).
Causes can be a double tragus or rudiments of the gill duct .
A preauricular appendage only has a disease value if it is cosmetic or if it is mechanically disturbing. It can then be surgically removed.
