history

Striking brise soleils (sun protection) on the facade of the building

Due to the reluctance of the colonial administration in Mozambique, Pancho Guedes mainly designed buildings for private clients. Octávio Lobo, himself a forwarding agent, commissioned him in the early 1960s to design a new office building for the forwarding company. Guedes designed a very narrow, six-story building - right next to the Prédio Abreu, Santos e Rocha , which had recently been built - but which extends very far into the property. Directly behind the building itself, Guedes designed a one-story warehouse extension. When designing the facade, the architect orientated himself on his previously practiced, so-called "tropical" architectural style: Narrow marble elements with bronze-colored brackets, so-called "Brisesoleils", enable the offices to be shaded from the sun. The entire facade is kept in a delicate pink to this day.

The building was completed in 1967. Today the freight forwarding company MoCargo SARL resides in the building. It is registered with the number 31691 in the Portuguese monument database Sistema de Informação para o Património Arquitectónico , which also includes works by former Portuguese colonies.
