Prelude, fugue et variation (Franck)

The Prelude, fugue et variation , op.18 , is dedicated to a composition for organ by César Franck and his friend Camille Saint-Saëns . It was written between 1860 and 1862 and consists of four movements in B minor . Sometimes the attacca movements merge into one another (concatenation of tonalities, pedal, etc.).

Lent

The nine-bar movement "Lent" represents a transition from the minor dominant in F sharp minor , in which the "Prelude" ends, to the half-close to F sharp major , which prepares the following fugue in B minor . In terms of motif, the fugue theme is developed three times .
