PragVec was a short-lived post-punk band that was formed in London in 1978.

history

In 1978 the PragVEC was founded by the two former members of the Derelicts band, Susan Gogan and John Studholme. At the same time, the Spec-Records label was launched. In the same year, the band released their EP Wolf , which was still a duet at the time , which includes their best-known song Cigarettes . David Boyd and Nick Cash were later added and the single Expert was recorded and released. For the debut album, PragVec was looking for more musicians to produce more demanding. So JG Thirlwell joined the band and the two saxophone players Art Moran and John Glyn performed on some of the pieces.

Later on, the band was occasionally played on British radio by John Peel and thus the band became known outside the scene. The last release was an album. Due to differences between the band members, only one concert took place in Liverpool from the planned tour of England . Thirlwell left the band to continue on solo paths and Cash joined the band Fad Gadget . In early 1981 PragVEC was dissolved.

John Studholme died in 2005 after a long illness. Before that, he planned to rework all of the songs and to release them with Mute Records, which however could never be realized.
