Praia Vermelha (German: "red beach") is a small beach between Pão de Açúcar (German Sugar Loaf ) and Morro do Urubu (German vulture hill), which is by no means red, as the name suggests.

The small, almost 250 m long beach is still relatively unknown to tourists, as the much more popular Leme and Copacabana are right behind the Morro do Urubu and Morro de Leme . Praia Vermelha is one of the safest beaches in Rio de Janeiro , as the place is very closely guarded because of a military base and thieves tend to cavort on the Copacabana.

From Praça General Tibúrcio you can take the cable car to the Sugar Loaf, first to the Morro da Urca and from there with another section to the Sugar Loaf (Pão de Açúcar).
