Praia da Marinha
The Praia da Marinha is a beach in the Algarve , the southernmost Portuguese province. It belongs to the administrative area of Lagoa and is located on the so-called "Felsalgarve". Many holidaymakers in the nearby resort of Carvoeiro , about 5 km away, use the beach for swimming, diving and snorkeling.
The beach is protected to the north by 30 m high cliffs. The rocks keep out cooler north winds, especially in the off-season, so that you can sunbathe even in winter with high pressure weather conditions and pleasant temperatures. The beach can be reached by driving east from Carvoeiro towards the coastal town of Benagil . From there, the beach, about 2 km away, is well signposted.
There is a large parking lot above the beach. To the east is the access to the beach, which can be reached via a few stairs. The beach is divided into three areas - the first area (80 m × 80 m) with a snack bar is followed by a narrow area (10 to 20 m) 150 m further west. At the western end of the beach it opens again to the third section, a larger area of around 60 m × 60 m. A section further to the west can only be reached by negotiating the remains of a rock that collapsed in 1998.
Pedal boats are rented out in summer. In the immediate vicinity are the largest sea caves in the Algarve, to which fishing boats offer trips in season.
The car park above the beach is suitable as a starting point for a cliff hike to the pilgrimage church of Nossa Senhora da Rocha or to Carvoeiro. The hiking trail has been signposted and marked since 2010.
The nearest beach to the east is Praia da Albandeira, about 1.5 km away, the closest to the west is Praia Benagil.
