Prairie Oyster is a Canadian western swing band from 1974.
history
Prairie Oyster was founded in 1974 by Russel deCarle, Keith Glass and Dennis Delorme. They stayed together until 1978, had a few live performances, but did not produce any albums. Outside of their native Ontario , the group remained almost unknown for the first few years.
In 1983, Prairie Oyster reorganized. There were also John P. Allen, Joan Besen and the drummer Bruce Moffat, who was later replaced by Charlie Cooley. It took a few more years until the first album Oyster Tracks was recorded in 1986 .
Five more records followed, some of which were named Album of the Year in Canada and the first four achieved gold or platinum status . The majority of the songs were written by the band members themselves, mainly Keith Glass, Russel deCarle and Joan Besen.
In 2000 the best-of-album String of Pearls was released. For the compilation of the songs, a fan survey was carried out in which everyone could name their favorites.
In the United States , Prairie Oyster had little success. In 1990 the sextet signed a contract with RCA and produced the album Different Kind of Fire in Nashville . The single Goodbye, So Long, Hello was named Country Single of the Year in Canada . There were also some placements in the back of the US C&W Top 100.
