Pratham is an Indian earth observation satellite that was built and operated by the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay . Its job is to search for electrons in the earth's ionosphere .

Pratham is a nanosatellite with an edge length of 26 cm. The satellite was built in less than 3 years. It is a student initiative with the participation of ISRO scientists.
Pratham carries a scientific payload to measure the total number of electrons in a sun-synchronous orbit .
It is powered by solar cells and batteries.

Pratham was on 26 September 2016 a PSLV - launch vehicle together with SCATSAT-1 , Alsat-1B and 2B , Alsat-1N , BlackSky Pathfinder 1 , pisat and CanX 7 from the Satish Dhawan Space Center started.
