The Prelude to the Dream is a special event held from 2005 to 2012 with “late models”, which took place annually at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg , Ohio . The race was hosted by Sprint Cup driver Tony Stewart , who owns Eldora Speedway. The event does not belong to NASCAR, but the field of drivers consisted largely of Sprint Cup drivers.

History of the event

The field on the starting grid at the Prelude to the Dream 2006

In 2005 the first Prelude to the Dream took place. The Sprint Cup driver Kenny Wallace won this race, and 50,000 dollars went to Kyle Petty 's Victory Junction Gang Camp , a facility for terminally ill children.

In 2006, the host Tony Stewart celebrated victory after passing Dave Blaney shortly before the end of the race . He celebrated in typical fashion and climbed the perimeter fence of his own racetrack. A total of 40,000 spectators saw the first two prelude-to-the-dream events. In 2007 Carl Edwards was able to win the main race, in the next two years Tony Stewart was able to re-enter the list of winners.

In 2010 the race was held for the first time with a new concept, the drivers were divided into four teams, each team representing a children's hospital. The positions of the top five drivers in each team were added up, the team with the lowest number of points won 45% of the donation, the second placed 25% and the remaining 15%. Jimmie Johnson won the race. The next races took place with the same system, in 2011 Clint Bowyer won . In 2012 the number of laps was increased from 30 to 40 laps, Kyle Busch finished the race in first place.

In October 2012 it was announced that the event will no longer take place from 2013 onwards.
