Premier of Montserrat
The Prime Minister of Montserrat is the head of government of the British overseas territory of Montserrat . Pursuant to Article 11 of the 1989 Montserrat Constitution Order , the Governor of Montserrat, representing the British Queen, appointed a politician as Chief Minister from among the members of the elected Parliament , who he believed enjoyed the most trust of the MPs. This was mostly the party leader of the party that had the majority in parliament.
On October 13, 2010, the Queen signed The Montserrat Constitution Order 2010 , which replaced the 1989 resolution and was adopted by the Parliament of Montserrat on October 20. In the new resolution, the head of government bears the title of Prime Minister . The first Prime Minister was Reuben Meade , who was serving as Chief Minister at the time of entry into force and who carried the new title from 2011.
