Premios Konex (German: Konex prizes ; English: Konex Foundation Awards or Konex Awards for short ) is the name of the cultural prizes awarded to Argentinian cultural personalities by the Konex Foundation ( Fundación Konex ).

Story and purpose

The Konex Prizes were first awarded by the Konex Foundation in Argentina in 1980. The purpose of this foundation is the promotion, stimulation, support and participation in cultural, educational, intellectual, artistic, social, philanthropic, scientific or sporting initiatives, works and companies. In order to achieve its goals, the foundation set up the Premios Konex , which is awarded to personalities and institutions who have achieved outstanding performance in one of the aforementioned areas. Selection and awards

The Premios Konex Cup

A jury of 20 members is appointed every year . These members are experts on the specific topics for which the award is being made and they will appoint their own President. The members of the jury themselves are excluded from being elected for the award. A gesture that the foundation particularly emphasizes. Every year the award-winning class is divided into 20 disciplines by the jury. The jury selects the beneficiaries for the following awards:

  • Diplomas al Mérito
  • Konex de Platino
  • Konex de Brillante
  • Konex de Honor
  • Konex Mercosur

The jury selects the five personalities or institutions who achieve the most remarkable achievements in each of the 20 selected disciplines and awards each of these 100 personalities or institutions a “Diplomas al Mérito” in a public ceremony. The jury then selects one of the five people who will be awarded the “Konex de Platino”. From among the 20 “Konex de Platino” winners, the jury selects the “Konex de Brillante”, the most outstanding personality or institution considered the most relevant personality of the activity. The "Konex de Honor" is awarded to an outstanding deceased personality. The jury also has the power to give special recognitions to those who are found worthy but are not specifically qualified for particular disciplines. Since 2002 the jury has had the power to award the "Konex Mercosur" to the most important living personalities. All awards will be presented in a final, special ceremony.
