The Priener Hut is an Upper Bavarian traditional hat from Prien am Chiemsee . It is part of the Chiemgau and Inntaler women's and girls' costume .

history

The women's hat was designed in Prien am Chiemsee by Anna Brunhuber (1861-1935) between 1879 and 1894 in different versions. The model was shown for the first time in 1879 at the trade fair in Berlin. It was still a black straw hat with an ostrich feather and silk flowers. Only slowly did this model change into the hat known today with gold tassels and gold embroidery on the lower edge of the hat. The hat was worn at a slight angle. It soon found widespread use in traditional costume fashion, also beyond the Chiemgau region . Many traditional costume clubs also adopted the Priener hat in their traditional costumes around 1920 . The forerunner of the Priener hat was the so-called Inntaler hat , which was already widespread in southern Upper Bavaria and North Tyrol in the 1820s.

Details

The hat is made from high quality black felt made from rabbit hair and has two to four gold tassels . A variant for the Sunday service was the mesh hat, which was decorated with a velvet ribbon bow instead of the tassel. The Priener hat is often provided with a double embroidered, skirt-length velvet band ( hat band ) for a better hold. On the underside of the brim it is usually decorated with rich gold embroidery .
