Primary thermometer

As a primary thermometer measuring instruments are referred to, the determination of the absolute temperature without prior calibration, in other thermometers allow. In all cases, physical quantities are measured that are linked to the temperature via fundamental physical relationships. Since their use often means a high level of experimental effort, in practice mostly secondary thermometers are used, i.e. thermometers that have to be calibrated.

Examples of primary thermometers
