The former ski area or the Maseben plateau is located on the southern elevation of the rear Langtaufer Valley , a side valley that leads from Graun in Vinschgau on Lake Reschen in South Tyrol , and can be reached from the valley town of Kappl (1,850 m) via a farm road that is closed to traffic. Opened in 1976, Maseben was a member of the Ortler Ski Arena and is located at an altitude of between 1,900 and 2,400 m. The ski area has been closed for financial reasons since 2014.

Maseben had a chair lift and a ski lift. A descent on skis was made possible by two slopes. There is also a 15 km long cross-country ski run and a 2 km long toboggan run . Nowadays, ski touring , snowshoeing and tobogganing are the main activities in Maseben in winter .

In summer, the mountain station of Maseben, known as the Atlantis of the Mountains , is the starting point for numerous high mountain tours, including to the Schwarzkopf (3,002 m), to the Tiergartenspitze (3,068 m), Mitterlochspitze (3,176 m), Falbenairspitze (3,199 m) or to the Rotebenkogel (3,157 m).
