Langtauferer valley
The Langtauferer Tal ( Italian Vallelunga ), also simply called Langtaufers , is located in the north-west of South Tyrol in Italy . It branches off from the Vinschgau or upper Adige Valley near Graun am Reschensee and runs roughly in a west-east direction with a slight curve to the north. The Langtauferer Tal, drained by the Karlinbach, is completely enclosed by the mountains of the Ötztal Alps . Administratively it belongs to the municipality of Graun im Vinschgau , the settlements of the valley together form the Langtaufers fraction .
The valley entrance area behind Graun is narrow, steep and deeply cut. After Pedross the valley widens and leads on its broad valley floor only moderately uphill to Melag . The Weißkugelhütte is located above the valley head as a base for hikers and mountaineers as well as the Langtaufer and the Bärenbartferner . The ridge bordering the valley in the north and east bears the border with the Austrian state of Tyrol , the southern ridge separates the Langtauferer from the Matscher and Planeiltal . The highest Langtaufer peaks are in the east above the valley head: the Weißseespitze ( 3498 m ), the Hintere Hintereisspitze ( 3485 m ), the Hochvernaglwand ( 3435 m ), the Langtauferer Spitze ( 3528 m ), the Weißkugel ( 3738 m ), the Innere ( 3553 m ) and the Äußere Bärenbartkogel ( 3473 m ).
