The Langtauferer peak is 3528 m above sea level. A. high summit in the Weißkamm in the Ötztal Alps . The summit is on the border between Tyrol ( Austria ) and South Tyrol ( Italy ). The Langtaufererspitze is connected to the Weißkugel , located to the southwest at a distance of a little more than 1.5 kilometers, by a firn ridge , the deepest of which is the Weißkugeljoch. The summit shows steep glacier flanks on all sides . To the east is the Langtauferer Ferner , to the south the upper Hintereisferner and northwest of the Langtauferer-Joch-Ferner , a tributary glacier of the Hintereisferner. All climbs require ice experience.
A weather station stands at an altitude of 3026 m on its east ridge, which runs down to the Hintereisferner.
Increase opportunities
The easiest ascent is via the Langtauferer Joch, which is northeast of the summit. You can get there from the Hochjochhospiz in the Rofental , from the Weißkugelhütte in the Langtauferer Tal or from the Brandenburger Haus . From the yoke, the ascent first leads over the rocky north ridge to a firn shoulder, which is about halfway up. From there you cross south over the Langtauferer-Joch-Ferner towards the east ridge. You reach the summit on its firn edge. From the Weißkugelhütte and from the Brandenburger Haus you have to plan about 4 hours for this ascent, from the Hochjochjospiz about 5 hours. Alternatively, the upper part of the north ridge can also be walked on. However, this is difficult depending on the conditions in the upper part.
