The Prime Minister's Prizes for Science are annual Australian awards for excellence in science and the teaching of science.

history

The prizes replaced the former Australia Prize for Science in 2000 . The main prize is the Prime Minister's Prize for Science , which is considered the most prestigious science award in the country. There is also the Science Minister's Prize for Life Scientist of the Year for achievements in the field of biology, and the Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year for physics . In 2002, prizes were awarded for excellent teaching in primary and secondary schools for the first time.

The Prime Ministers main prize can be awarded to individuals or teams and is worth $ 250,000 (as of 2018). Associated with it is a medal and a pin and the winner is a member of the Prime Minister's Science, Engineering and Innovation Council for one year .
