The Prince of Wales Mountains form a mountain range on Ellesmere Island in the north of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago . The mountain range, which is roughly in the middle of the island, is part of the Arctic Cordillera . It was named in 1852 after the then Crown Prince Albert Edward, later Edward VII . The Prince of Wales Icefield covers the mountain range. The ice cap has an area of approximately 20,000 km².
