The Princess Theater is an event building in the city of Decatur in the US state of Alabama .

The building was originally a horse stable of the Casa Grande Hotel, built in 1887 . In 1919 it was completely rebuilt. A building was created in which silent films were initially shown, and vaudeville events were also added as early as the early 1920s . The evening of the premiere was December 30, 1919. The Princess Theater got its current appearance in the Art Deco style after another conversion in 1940/41 under the direction of the architect Albert Frahn into a cinema .

After the cinema closed in 1978, the building was acquired by the city of Decatur. This left it at the price of 750,000 US dollars to renovate and open the event hall again 1,983th After another renovation in 2000/01, it now functions as a center of the performing arts . The spectrum of the presented events encompasses all areas of the performing arts and ranges from film screenings to theater performances to music concerts. There are a total of 677 seats.

The building was entered on the Alabama Monument Protection Register in 1981 , and on July 7, 1995, it was also added to the National Register of Historic Places as a Contributing Property of the Historic District New Decatur-Albany .
