The children's clinic on Lachnerstrasse in Munich was an infant home and a respected children's clinic. It has meanwhile been integrated into the hospital of the Third Order Hospital at a new location as the Children's Clinic of the Third Order .

history

On May 8, 1909, the infant home on Lachnerstrasse was opened from donations from the Munich “ Verein Kinderschutz ” ( Association for Child Protection ) as a new building for the infant home in Metzstrasse that had already existed in 1903 . In this home there were 75 beds for babies and toddlers, 12 beds for mothers and a day room for toddlers. The hospital, which was modern and spacious at the time, soon attracted international interest as a model hospital and was trend-setting for many new children's clinics.

Since 1925 , donations have been collected for the baby home on Lachnerstrasse at the Chrysanthemum Ball , which is now the oldest charity festival in Munich.

In 1939 the nursing home was named an infant hospital, and in 1943 after a heavy air raid it was evacuated and temporarily used as temporary accommodation for the wounded and refugees. From 1946 operations were partially resumed. In 1962 an extension for 90 more beds was opened and the hospital was divided into departments for pediatric surgery and pediatrics . Over time, the clinic developed into a treatment center for children of all ages with 130 beds. Only the building was only suitable to a limited extent for a modern clinic that was efficient and modern by current standards, despite repeated renovations.

After the Sisterhood of Sickness Care of the Third Order took over the sponsorship of the children's clinic on Lachnerstrasse in January 1995, renovation of the building was viewed as uneconomical and instead, from 1998, a new building was undertaken on the site of the Third Order Hospital , which has been in operation since 2002 is.

A children's home for children in need of care with chronic respiratory diseases was originally to be built on the premises of the Lachner Clinic in order to continue the tradition of the children's hospital. In the end, however, the Atemreich house was built next to the new 3rd order children's clinic on Franz-Knie-Strasse. The buildings of the former children's clinic on Lachnerstrasse were converted into apartments.
