The chrysanthemum ball is an annual dance ball in Munich . It serves the charity for the benefit of needy children. It was founded in 1925 by Paula Zell . Around three million euros have been collected since then. The chrysanthemum ball traditionally takes place in the Deutsches Theater in Munich during Mardi Gras. Musically, he was accompanied by Hugo Strasser, who died in 2016, and his orchestra for over 60 years - an achievement that has been entered in the Guinness Book of Records . There are star guests, musicians, dance and acrobatics groups as well as a children's ballet for decades.

history

In 1924, Paula Zell found out about the financial problems of the infant home from a nurse at the children's clinic on Lachnerstrasse and decided to raise money for them. For this purpose, the first chrysanthemum ball took place on February 3, 1925, under the protectorate of Crown Princess Antonia of Bavaria. In the cherubim hall of the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten the then substantial sum of 25,000 Reichsmarks was donated in one evening . The ball later took place in the Regina-Palast-Hotel and in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof .

Since then, support has been given to regional and national orphanages , facilities for disabled children, children's clinics, children's homes and organizations that have taken on the support of children in need. These include the Franziskuswerk Schönbrunn , the SOS Children's Village in Dießen , projects of the German Child Protection Association , the special educational children's home Haus Bambi in Schliersee , the children's clinic on Lachnerstrasse , the Aidshilfe and regularly the Pfennigparade .

Since 1958, the so-called debutantes have been presented with a polonaise and a Viennese waltz accompanied by members of the Munich Senior Citizens' Convention . Women and men between the ages of 16 and 25 can apply for the 24 places. The chrysanthemum ball is supported by numerous helpers and celebrities, members of the Thurn und Taxis family and the Bavarian state government .
