Princess Antonia, called Toni, was born as the fourth of the six daughters of Grand Duke William IV of Luxembourg and Infanta Maria Anna of Portugal . She was also the sister of two grand duchesses; Charlotte and Marie-Adelheid .

During the last months of the war she got engaged on February 20, 1918 to Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria, 30 years her senior . However, this connection was soon broken for political reasons. The couple's re-engagement was announced in February 1921, and the wedding took place on April 7, 1921. The marriage had six children.

After the assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler by the German resistance on July 20, 1944 , the Wehrmacht was looking for people who knew about it and their families who were included in the Christian-conservative "reaction" and who were against national socialism . Generalfeldmarschall a. D. Rupprecht was targeted by the Gestapo as an early Nazi opponent , but was able to hide in Florence, Italy . On July 27, 1944, Antonia and her children were taken into " kin custody" and interned in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp and later in Dachau , where they were liberated in April 1945.

Antonia, who could no longer recover from her stay in the concentration camp, died at the age of 54 in Lenzerheide , Switzerland. She was buried in the Campo Santo Teutonico in Rome . Her heart was buried separately and is in the royal chapel of grace in Altötting .
