Princess Adelheid Marie von Anhalt-Dessau (* December 25, 1833 in Dessau ; † November 24, 1916 at Königstein Castle in the Taunus ) was the last Duchess of Nassau by marriage and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg since 1890 .

Life

Adelheid Marie was the eldest daughter of Prince Friedrich August von Anhalt-Dessau and Princess Marie Luise Charlotte von Hessen-Kassel .

In 1851, after the early death of his first wife, she became the second wife of Duke Adolph von Nassau , who later became Grand Duke of Luxembourg . This marriage gave birth to the following five children:

  • William IV (1852–1912), Grand Duke of Luxembourg
  • Friedrich (September 28, 1854 - October 23, 1855)
  • Marie (14 November 1857 - 28 December 1857)
  • Franz Joseph Wilhelm (January 30, 1859 - April 2, 1875)
  • Hilda (1864–1952) ∞ Grand Duke Friedrich II of Baden

Duchess Adelheid chose Königstein as her summer residence. Her husband gave her the Luxembourg Castle there in 1858 . She was highly regarded in the town. Adelheidstrasse is named after her. Also named after her is the Duchess Adelheid Stift, today's parish hall of the Protestant Church, to which Adelheid donated the property in 1912.
