Prix de La Mamounia
The Prix de La Mamounia was a Moroccan literary prize donated by the Hotel La Mamounia , the aim of which was to promote Moroccan literature in French. It was awarded with prize money of 200,000 dirhams (around 18,000 euros in 2016) and was awarded from 2010 to 2015.
The winner was determined annually by a seven-member jury that selects the winner from five nominated French-language works by Moroccan writers. The award ceremony took place in the La Mamounia Hotel in Marrakech . The jury has been headed by the writer Christine Orban (France) since 2011 , other jury members included the writers Douglas Kennedy (USA), Marie Laberge (Canada), Vincent Engel (Belgium) and Alain Mabanckou (Republic of the Congo). The best-known winner is the French-Moroccan writer Leïla Slimani , who was later awarded the Prix Goncourt . After 2015, the award of the prize was temporarily suspended due to financial problems.
