Douglas Lawrence Kennedy (* 1955 in Manhattan , New York City ) is an American writer .

Life

Douglas Kennedy is the son of a broker and a production assistant for NBC . He attended the Collegiate School in New York City and graduated from Bowdoin College with a degree in history with Magna Cum Laude in 1976 . He then moved to Ireland, where he studied in Dublin for a year at Trinity College and founded a theater company with a friend. With this he was later engaged by the Abbey Theater for a supporting program. At the age of 28, however, he left this again and concentrated completely on writing. He wrote some radio plays for the radio and a play before he published his first book in 1988 with the travelogue Beyond the Pyramids: Travel in Egypt . He and his wife moved to London in 1988 , where he eventually worked as a journalist, working for newspapers such as The Sunday Times , The Sunday Telegraph , The Listener, and The New Statesman .

Douglas made his debut as a writer in 1994 with the thriller Only Heaven Was Witness . Since then he has written nine more novels, including thrillers, dramas and crime novels. He often writes his stories from the perspective of educated women. Several of his books became international bestsellers and sold over six million copies worldwide, with a total circulation of 3 million in France alone. With Aus der Welt and The Moment , two of his novels were already number 1 on the bestseller list. He was also awarded the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres cultural award in 2007 .

So far, three of Kennedy's novels have been filmed. After his debut novel was published in 1997 with Johnathon Schaech and Susie Porter in the leading roles under the title Welcome to Woop Woop , his second novel Nachtblende with Romain Duris and Marina Foïs in the leading roles was filmed under the title of the same name . Most recently, the film adaptation of The Lover was released with Ethan Hawke and Kristin Scott Thomas , which was released on DVD in Germany on April 6, 2012 under the title The Mysterious Stranger .

He lives with his wife and their two children in London, Paris , Berlin , Montreal and Maine .
