Pro Argovia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pro Argovia is a private cultural foundation in the canton of Aargau to promote culture and science.

It was founded in 1952 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Aarau Cantonal School. The purpose of the foundation is to bring existing, traditional and, above all, contemporary cultural assets closer to the people in all parts of the canton and to promote an understanding of the promotion of culture as a political necessity.

In particular, the foundation advocated anchoring a cultural article in the canton's constitution and advocating the relevant legislation. The culture law was adopted by the Aargau people in 1968.

The foundation initiates projects that promise a lasting impact - the Stapferhaus Lenzburg , which it co-founded (named after Philipp Albert Stapfer ), is an example of this. With its selective activities, Pro Argovia wants to consciously set priorities, close gaps and respond to needs. In doing so, she focuses on contemporary cultural creation. It promotes Aargau culture with the three funding instruments Pro Argovia Artists, Pro Argovia Experiment and Pro Argovia Kaktus. In addition, she organizes public discussion events on cultural issues with the Pro Kul Aargau vessel. In addition, the foundation annually awards high-quality Matura theses from grammar schools in Aargau. Kathrin Jacober (District Court President Zofingen) and Lukas Renckly (cultural manager) are co-presidents.

In 2017, the lobbying of Pro Argovia against austerity measures in the cultural sector was received differently by different political camps.
