Rehearsal room in Vienna

A rehearsal room is a room that is used, for example, by musicians for rehearsal purposes and sometimes also for recording pieces of music.

Rehearsal rooms are usually located in cellars , youth houses and in some cases also in old bunkers . Due to their massive construction, bunkers in particular represent a good sound barrier that does not pollute the environment as much, even at high internal volume levels. The acoustics in the interior are often optimized through special structural measures. This is particularly important for microphone recordings.

With foam specially developed for acoustic applications, e.g. B. pyramid foam, the volume level and the reverberation time of the rehearsal room can be dampened depending on the frequency . The sound hits the open-pored medium and is converted into heat by friction. Egg cartons , on the other hand, are not suitable for acoustic optimization of the interior, despite widespread assumption, since the sound in this medium is only broken (deflected) and not converted.

Attenuation measures - which are not insulation measures - improve the acoustics within the room. A reduction in noise pollution outside is hardly achieved. The idea that damping measures such as pyramid foam sheets and egg cartons isolate the sound exposure outside the rehearsal room is not correct.

A soundproof room should be hermetically sealed from the outside world. In addition, the low-frequency vibrations in particular must be decoupled through room in room systems.
