Procida Bucalossi

Procida Bucalossi (* 1832 ; † 1918 ) was an English composer.

Bucalossi became known as a composer of light popular music. He worked as a conductor at the Prince of Wales Theater until 1881 . For the music publisher Chappell & Co. he wrote numerous dance arrangements based on operettas by Gilbert and Sullivan .

In 1880 he composed the operetta Rothomago with Gaston Serpette , Edward Solomon and Georges Jacobi . In 1882 his most successful work was performed, the operetta Les Manteaux Noirs . The theater impresario Richard D'Oyly Carte held it so highly valued that he secured the performance rights for the British colonies and America the following year.

Bucalossi was the father of Ernest Bucalossi ( Procida Ernest Luigi Bucalossi , pseudonym Ernest Elton , 1863-1933), the composer of the popular character piece The Grasshopper's Dance .
