from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Produce 101 is a reality television - talent competition , which the South Korean entertainment company CJ E & M was launched and on the formation of a K-pop girl - or boy group is based. The format is known for the fact that there is no jury but rather uses the audience for decision-making and starts with a very large number of competitors (101) narrowing that number down to the last 11. The franchise began in 2016 and has since expanded to China and Japan.

The franchise has found a wide fan base in Asia. More than 10 million people voted in the 2017 season two finale, which is a fifth of the South Korean population. In 2018, the eight episodes of Produce 101 China had more than 4.3 billion views on Tencent Video.

After the Mnet investigation into election manipulation, producer Ahn Joon-young partially admitted on November 14, 2019 that he had manipulated the votes of all seasons of Produce 101 during the questioning by the police. He was previously arrested on charges of bribery and fraud in the franchise.
