The Profactor GmbH (proper spelling: PROFACTOR ) is a non-university research institute in Upper Austria , headquartered in Steyr .

history

Profactor was founded at a time when Steyr was considered a crisis region in terms of jobs. Profactor works with both SMEs and large companies. The idea of ​​an industry and research-related center was supported by the Ministry of Science and Economics as well as the technology node concept of the Upper Austrian provincial government and is considered a prototype for the K-plus centers emerging today .

Around 75 employees work on technological solutions for the manufacturing industry. The solutions developed try to span the spectrum from basic industrial research to applied research. Profactor works with universities and non-university research institutes on research projects.

The self-financing rate is more than 92 percent.

The increased focus on applied research led to the sale of the subsidiary Profactor Research and Solutions GmbH to the German Heitec Group in 2010.

In 2014 Upper Austrian Research GmbH (UAR) took over 49 percent of the shares in Profactor GmbH. The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology has held a 51 percent stake in Profactor GmbH since June 2018.
