Professional Diving Instructors Corporation (PDIC International) is an international diving organization based in Largo, Florida . It was founded in 1969 in Montenrey, California, USA to create uniform standards for instructor training.

history

Ed and Ruth Brawley founded the then “Professional Diving Instructors College” in 1969 as the first school for diving instructors in the USA. In the early 80s PDIC was taken over by the Murphy family who changed the name to "Professional Diving Instructors Corporation". They expanded internationally and led the association for 2 generations.

In 2011, PDIC was bought by Tom Leaird, who in 2008 had already co-founded SEI Diving ("Scuba Educators International"), a diving association that emerged from the YMCA diving program. Since 2020 PDIC and SEI Diving have been operating under the name "SCUBA Educators". The company headquarters was relocated to Florida.

In 2019, PDIC trained divers in 24 countries.

International cooperation

PDIC Intl is a founding member of the RSTC US , which, as part of the WRSTC ("World Recreational Scuba Training Council") as an organization for uniform standards in diving training, develops guidelines with a large number of international diving associations.

Tom Leaird became chairman of the RSTC US in 2017 and PDIC has also been issuing CMAS certificates in the USA since 2017 .

SEI has extensive ISO certifications for training.
