Diving organization

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Diving organizations are companies , clubs or associations for sport or professional divers .

A distinction is made between organizations built up in the club system (diving club and diving association; e.g. the VDST is a member of the CMAS ) and non-club-dependent, predominantly commercial training organizations (such as PADI , NAUI , SSI ). Some organizations operate worldwide, others only nationally or locally.

The best-known organizations are organized around the world either themselves or through umbrella organizations. Mostly they maintain a network of diving centers and diving schools all over the world and also arrange diving trips. While some diving organizations only offer franchising contracts for diving centers, others charge membership fees and thus offer a diving school more freedom. Compensation can also be paid per student divers, e.g. B. through the compulsory purchase of teaching materials.

Most organizations create regulations and rules for diving training for beginners and advanced training courses for diving guides and diving instructors. The training is proven by a diving license (certification).

In the past, the brevets of individual diving organizations were not recognized among each other, especially in countries where diving is subject to legal regulations (e.g. France or Spain). In the meantime, all major diving organizations recognize each other's training. The performance levels are  regulated internationally in the standards ISO 24801, ISO 24802 and ISO 11107, which describe the equivalence and minimum standards for training. This guarantees the compatibility of different training courses from different diving organizations to a certain extent, although the contents of the courses can sometimes differ considerably.
