A diving school is a company, an association or a military unit that organizes and conducts diving training .

education

At a diving school, beginners can complete basic diving training and experienced divers can improve their diving skills and deepen their knowledge in various further training courses. Most diving courses include theory lessons, hands-on exercises, and one or more exams. A diving instructor trains the diving students - partly supported by diving instructor assistants - and assesses their maturity for certification. If a diving instructor with a higher certification is available at a diving school, diving instructor candidates can usually also be trained. For the certification of a diving instructor, an independent, external examiner must usually be called in.

Infrastructure

Many diving schools have their own seminar rooms for theoretical training. In order to be able to teach beginners the first practical exercise lessons in a safe environment, some large diving schools have their own swimming pools . Instead, smaller schools mostly use public swimming pools or smaller private swimming pools owned by third parties. The practical training of experienced divers mostly takes place in open water, i.e. in a lake or in the sea. Diving schools are often affiliated with a diving base or a diving resort and can thus use its infrastructure, which z. B. greatly simplifies the rental of diving equipment for a student diver .

standardization

Diving schools are usually affiliated with at least one diving organization , according to whose standardized training concept training takes place. In order to enable divers to easily change the training organization, most diving courses are now standardized according to the international standards ISO 24801-1 to 24801-3. Many diving schools also meet the requirements of the ISO 24803 standard. The most important international diving organizations are PADI , SSI and CMAS . While some diving organizations only offer franchising contracts for diving schools, others charge membership fees and thus offer a school more freedom. Payment can also be made per student, e.g. B. through the compulsory purchase of teaching materials. Some diving organizations make their concepts and teaching aids available free of charge to every instructor certified by them.
