Lenin monuments in Ukraine
The overview of Lenin monuments in Ukraine includes monuments and busts erected in public places in honor of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin in the Republic of Ukraine . Simple memorial plaques are not included. The Ukrainian Lenin monuments are compiled alphabetically by place.
Before the Euromaidan movement, there were almost 2500 Lenin monuments across the country. In May 2015, the Ukrainian government passed a law that would remove all references to the Soviet Union from the public. This includes place, street and factory names, but also monuments.
The Lenin monuments in the former Soviet republics, which became independent after 1989, are presented in the articles Lenin monuments in Russia and Lenin monuments in the former socialist countries .
To the list
The list can be sorted by city, year of installation and the sculptors named first. The photos and photos of a Lenin community on www.panaramio.com contained in Commons form the essential basis of the table . The note "Selection" means that the overview does not claim to be complete.
According to a report by the Ukrainian news channel liga.net , a good 500 monuments fell in December 2014, while the number that remained was estimated at 1,700. This number was massively reduced through targeted action in 2016, while the 1,320 Lenin monuments were demolished.

Controversy over Lenin monuments
Katarina Yushchenko, the wife of the then President of Ukraine, called for the removal of all Lenin monuments during the Second Ecumenical Week in the Ukrainian Catholic University on October 6, 2009. From their point of view, this was a consequence of the fact that many Ukrainian churches were destroyed in the Soviet era. “The culture and beliefs of the Ukrainians have been deformed and are now in need of renovation”.
Numerous Lenin monuments were overturned or damaged during the Euromaidan protests . After a dispute over the Lenin monument at Kharkiv Freedom Square on March 14, 2014 two of the defenders of the monument often referred to as anti-fascists at that time during the trial of a storming of the office of were Right Sector members of the Prawyj shot sector. Ultimately, on the evening of September 28, 2014, this statue of Lenin was toppled by members of the Right Sector .
In May 2015, the Ukrainian government passed a law that would remove all references to the Soviet Union from the public. This includes place, street and factory names, but also monuments.
Interim status in autumn 2016: A total of 54 of the monuments included in the list have been destroyed, relocated or otherwise changed.
