Novoajdar ( Ukrainian Новоайдар ; Russian Новоайдар Novoaidar ) is an urban-type settlement in Luhansk Oblast in eastern Ukraine . It has 8400 inhabitants (2016) and is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
geography
The city is located in the Donets Basin on the Ajdar , a left tributary of the Donets . The Luhansk Oblast Center can be reached on the N 21 road 58 km south and Starobilsk on the same road 38 km north. The villages of Ajdar-Mykolaivka (Айдар-Миколаївка) and Malovendeliwka (Маловенделівка) also belong to the settlement council of the same name .
history
The place was founded in 1685. Novoajdar was occupied by Wehrmacht troops from July 12, 1942 to January 21, 1943 . Since 1957 the place has the status of an urban-type settlement.

- Alexander Schopin (Russian: Александр Самойлович Шопин ; * December 15, 1917, † October 11, 1982). Schopin was awarded the title " Hero of the Soviet Union " on December 20, 1943 for his active participation in the crossing of the Dnieper and the holding of a bridgehead during the Dnieper offensive on September 25, 1943.
