Hirske (Ukrainian Гірське ; Russian Горское / Gorskoje ) is a small town in Luhansk Oblast in eastern Ukraine . It has around 10,000 inhabitants (2016) and administratively belongs to the Popasna Rajon .

Until October 7, 2014, the place was administratively part of the city of Pervomajsk , then was annexed to the Popasna Raion , in September 2016 the area around the village of Orichowe (Оріхове) was enlarged with 327 hectares.

The city in eastern Ukraine is located in Luhansk Oblast , 64 kilometers from the Oblast capital Luhansk . The city has an area of ​​16.51 km² and is located in the middle of small forests at the mouth of the Belenkaj River in the Donets on its right bank, the city of Solote is located to the south, and the town of Orichowe to the east also belongs to the city council .

Hirske has bus connections to the cities of Luhansk, Sjewjerodonetsk , Lysychansk and Pervomajsk. There is also a train connection and a railway station.

In 2001, 5,571 Russians, 2,108 Ukrainians, 3,001 Belarusians and 900 Tatars lived in the city . The majority of the residents of Hirske are Russian Orthodox , but a few hundred Muslims also live in the city, mostly Tatars. The Russians have always been the largest ethnic group in Hirske.
