Almasna (Ukrainian Алмазна ; Russian Алмазная / Almasnaja ) is a city in eastern Ukraine in the Luhansk Oblast with 4200 inhabitants (2015) and administratively belongs to the municipality of Stakhanov .
geography
The city is located in the eastern Donets Basin 6 km northwest of Brjanka , 7 km southwest of Stakhanov and 65 km west of the oblast capital Luhansk . Almasna is part of the Alchevsk- Stakhanov agglomeration .
history
Almasna was founded in 1870 under the name Isjum ( Ізюм , translated "raisins") and renamed in 1878 in Almasna (translated "diamond"). Almasna was recognized as a city in 1977.

In Almasna there is a train station called Stakhanov , from which you can take a train to Moscow and Saint Petersburg . In addition, some "Elektritschkas", ie regional trains, stop there. From 1939 to 1993 there was also a line of the Stakhanov tram in Almasna. After the closure, the overhead lines were used for a trolleybus route, which was also closed in 2008. However, the overhead lines are still there today. At the moment, several bus routes run through Almasna and connect it with the nearby town of Stakhanov. Otherwise there are still taxis.
