Oleksandriwsk ( Ukrainian Олександрівськ ; Russian Александровск Alexandrowsk ) is a city in eastern Ukraine with about 12,000 inhabitants.
The place is in the center of the Luhansk Oblast , about 10 kilometers west of the Oblast capital Luhansk , north of the Luhan River.
The town council municipality, which is part of the municipality of Luhansk in the Stadtrajon Artemivsk , also includes the settlements Dzerzhynske ( Дзержинське ) and Teplytschne ( Тепличне ).
Oleksandrivsk was founded in 1772 as Alexandrowka . In 1959 the place was granted the status of an urban-type settlement and was renamed Oleksandriwsk / Alexandriwsk, in 1961 it was finally granted city status.
Since summer 2014, the city has been occupied by separatists from the Lugansk People's Republic during the war in Ukraine .
