Lenina (Ukrainian Леніна - Ukrainian since May 12, 2016 officially Marija / Марія ; Russian Ленина ) is an urban-type settlement in eastern Ukraine with around 1000 inhabitants.
geography
The place is located in Luhansk Oblast , about 5 kilometers northwest of the Rajons capital Lutuhyne and 18 kilometers southwest of the Oblast capital Luhansk .
Lenina forms administratively together with the urban-type settlement Vrubivskyj (Врубівський) and the settlements Novopawliwka (Новопавлівка) the settlement council municipality Vrubivskyj.
history
The place was officially founded as Marija (Марія) in 1896 , renamed Lenina in 1946 and finally received urban-type settlement status in 1972.
Since the summer of 2014, the town has been occupied by separatists from the Lugansk People's Republic during the war in Ukraine .
