Włodzimierz Czarzasty (born May 3, 1960 in Warsaw ) is a Polish politician, was a member of the National Broadcasting Council and, since 2016, chairman of Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej .

Life

Włodzimierz Czarzasty studied international relations at the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science of the University of Warsaw . In the 1980s he was a student activist and was deputy chairman of the student association. From 1983 to 1990 Czarzasty belonged to the communist party PZPR . After the political turnaround, he was associated with the SLD , but ran unsuccessfully as a representative of the party in the 1997 parliamentary elections .

Professionally, he worked in the print and media sector as a member of corporate management. From 1988 to 1990 Czarzasty filled the position of director of the Academic Bureau of Culture and Art Alma-Art . 1990-2000 he was co-owner and CEO of the publishing house Muza together with his wife . He was also a member of the supervisory board of the production company Euromedia .

He sat on the board of directors of the public radio company Polskie Radio until he was recalled in 1998 by the Minister of the Treasury, Emil Wąsacz . This decision was declared illegal in 2002 by the District Court in Warsaw. In May 1999, then President Aleksander Kwaśniewski sent him to the National Broadcasting Council and from March 2000 to August 2004 he held the position of secretary. In January 2005, he resigned a few months before the end of his six-year term. His name appeared in the so-called Rywin Affair . He has been shown to have an important influence on the public media and privatization concepts.

From 2006 to 2011 Włodzimierz Czarzasty was a co-owner of the Wilga publishing house .

In 2012 he took part in the internal party elections for chairman of the SLD for the Masovian Voivodeship and won this against his competitor Katarzyna Piekarska with 111 to 106 votes received. In the parliamentary elections in 2015 , Czarzasty ran again unsuccessfully as leader of the electoral list in Płock for the Zjednoczona Lewica . Then he entered the elections for chairman of Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej and took first place in the first ballot. In the second ballot, where the delegates voted at a party congress, Czarzasty received 428 votes and won against Jerzy Wenderlich , who received only 305 votes.

Czarzasty is a member of the national association for the protection of birds.
