Irmino (Ukrainian Ірміно ; Russian Ирмино / Irmino ) is a city in eastern Ukraine with about 10,000 inhabitants.

The place is in the west of the Luhansk Oblast , about 6 kilometers northwest of Stakhanov and 51 kilometers west of the Oblast capital Luhansk on the river Luhan .

The city forms its own municipality which in turn is subordinate to the municipality of Stachanow.

Flag of the place

Irmino was founded as Petrowka in 1808 and renamed Irmino in 1900 in honor of the daughter of the local mine owner named Irma. In 1936 the place received city status and was incorporated into Stachanow in 1962. In 1977 it was spun off again as an independent city and at the same time renamed Teplohirsk / Teplogorsk (Теплогірськ), this name was reversed on July 8, 2010.

The hero of socialist labor, Alexei Stakhanov , worked in the local coal mine from 1927. The Stakhanov tram had a connection with Irmino until it was closed in 2008.

Since summer 2014, the city has been occupied by separatists from the Lugansk People's Republic during the war in Ukraine .
