Petrovsk (Ukrainian Петровське - Ukrainian officially since May 12, 2016 Petrowo-Krasnosillja / Петрово-Красносілля ; Russian Петровское / Petrowskoje ) is a small town in Luhansk Oblast in eastern Ukraine . It has about 13,000 inhabitants and administratively belongs to the city of Krasnyj Luch . For City Council community are still the urban-type settlement Fedoriwka and the two settlements Butkewytsch (Буткевич) and Werhuliwkske (Вергулівське) and the village Woskresseniwka (Воскресенівка).

The city in eastern Ukraine is located in Luhansk Oblast about 45 kilometers southwest of the Oblast capital Luhansk .
history
The history of the city begins in the 1770s, in 1790 the place is mentioned in a document as Petrovo-Krasnoselje (Петрово-Красноселье). The economic development of the city is shaped by the chemical industry, in 1896 a chemical factory is opened in the town, the operator is a Russian-French company. In 1938 Petrovke was named an urban-type settlement , during the Second World War it was occupied by Germany and the chemical plants were relocated to the east. On September 2, 1943, the site was recaptured by the Red Army , and in 1944 the Soviet Union decided to rebuild the factory. In 1963 the town was finally given town status. Since the summer of 2014, the town has been occupied by separatists from the Lugansk People's Republic during the war in Ukraine .
