Welykyj Loh (Ukrainian Великий Лог ; Russian Великий Лог / Veliki Log ) is an urban-type settlement in eastern Ukraine with about 600 inhabitants.
geography
The place is in the east of the Luhansk Oblast on the river Velyka Kamjanka , about 6 kilometers south of the Rajons capital Krasnodon and 37 kilometers southeast of the Oblast capital Luhansk . Velykyj Loh forms administratively together with the settlement Verkhnya Krasnjanka (Верхня Краснянка) a settlement council municipality.
history
The place was founded in 1762 and was named Nyschnja Krasnjanka in 1925 (Лог / Log means "long and wide gorge" in Russian). In 1938 it was finally designated an urban-type settlement, and since 1991 it has been part of present-day Ukraine.
Since the summer of 2014, the town has been occupied by separatists from the Lugansk People's Republic during the war in Ukraine .
