Uralo-Kawkas (Ukrainian and Russian Урало-Кавказ ) is an urban-type settlement in the east of the Ukrainian Luhansk Oblast with about 2500 inhabitants.
Administratively, the place belongs to the municipality of the city of Krasnodon, which is 6 kilometers southwest, and forms its own settlement council to which the settlement Sachidnyj (Західний) also belongs, the oblast capital Luhansk is 42 kilometers southwest of the place, the river Duwanna (Дуванна) runs through the local area. , the border with Russia (with the city of Donetsk ) runs east of the village.
Uralo-Kawkas was founded in 1914 as a miners' settlement for the one coal mine of the Ural-Caucasus Corporation (hence the name of the place) and in 1938 raised to the status of an urban-type settlement. Since the summer of 2014, the town has been occupied by separatists from the Lugansk People's Republic during the war in Ukraine . The formerly independent towns Verkhnye Duwanne (Верхнє Дуванне) and Nyschje Duwanne (Нижнє Дуванне) were later attached to the community. The place has become a hub of smuggling and crime in the 2000s.
