Chervonopartysansk ( Ukrainian Червонопартизанськ - Ukrainian officially since May 12, 2016 Vosnesseniwka / Вознесенівка ; Russian Червонопартизанск Chervonopartisansk ) is a city in eastern Ukraine with about 15,500 inhabitants .

geography

The city is part of the urban district of Sverdlovsk in the Donets Basin in the southeast of the Luhansk Oblast and is located about 90 km south of the Oblast capital Luhansk on the border with the Russian Oblast of Rostov .

history

The Roter Partisan mine was founded in 1947. After amalgamation of several villages to Chervonopartysansk, the resulting place received the status of an urban-type settlement in 1956 and the status of a town in 1960. In July 2014, in connection with the Ukraine crisis , a shell struck the city, killing four people. The company that operates the mines in the city then stopped work in the mines for safety reasons. From June 4 to July 10, 2014, the Chervonopartysansk border post was occupied by pro-Russian separatists. Since the summer of 2014, the town has been occupied by separatists from the Lugansk People's Republic during the war in Ukraine .
