Jessauliwka (Ukrainian Єсаулівка ; Russian Есауловка / Jessaulowka ) is an urban-type settlement in eastern Ukraine with about 1500 inhabitants.
geography
The place is located in the southwest of the Luhansk Oblast on the Malo-Kripenka River (Мало-Кріпенка) about 8 kilometers southwest of the Rajons capital Antrazyt and 60 kilometers southwest of the Oblast capital Luhansk . The border with Donetsk Oblast is about 5 kilometers southwest of the town.
history
The place was founded in 1777 as Evdokijowka (named after the name of the widow of the first landowner Eudokia / Evdokija), then renamed to its current name in 1803 (after the rank of the new Cossack owner - Yessaul ) and finally in 1938 it was named an urban-type settlement. Since 1991 it has been part of what is now Ukraine. In 1830 the place was given the status of a market town, at the end of the 19th century, gold deposits were found near the place by Danish geologists, these were subsequently opened up by a mine, but in 1940 these were already exhausted.
Since the summer of 2014, the town has been occupied by separatists from the Lugansk People's Republic during the war in Ukraine .
