Georg Oskar Immanuel von Hase (born September 15, 1846 in Jena , † January 26, 1921 in Leipzig ) was a German publisher and bookseller.

Life

Georg Oskar Immanuel was born the son of Jena theology professor Karl August von Hase and his wife Pauline Härtel (born April 12, 1809 in Leipzig; † March 20, 1885 in Jena). The brother of Victor von Hase and Karl Alfred von Hase attended the Stoy'sche school in Jena. In 1863 he attended the Bernhardinum grammar school in Meiningen and completed a two-year bookseller apprenticeship with the publisher Gustav Marcus (1820–1895) in Bonn in 1866 .

In 1868 he enrolled at the University of Bonn , where he mainly attended lectures by Anton Springer and Heinrich von Sybel . In the winter semester of 1868/69 he continued his studies at the University of Jena . Here he heard Kuno Fischer's explanations on literature , Wilhelm Adolf Schmidt's history and Bruno Hildebrand's economics . With a thesis on "The Koburger, bookseller family in Nuremberg" received his doctorate on April 10, 1869 in Jena as a doctor of philosophy.

He then completed a year as a bookseller at the Breitkopf & Härtel publishing house and volunteered in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. On May 1, 1871, he again became a bookstore assistant at Breitkopf & Härtel, rose to the position of authorized signatory in 1873 and became a partner in the company on September 2, 1875. He initially ran this together with his cousin Wilhelm Volkmann , and after his death from 1890 with his son Ludwig Volkmann as co-owner of the publishing house. From 1885 to 1890 he worked as chairman of the Association of German Professional Associations , from 1886 to 1889 he was chairman of the Buchdruckerberufsgenossenschaft , from 1884 to 1901 he was chairman of the Central Association for the German Book Industry , from 1894 to 1897 chairman of the association of booksellers in Leipzig and from 1875 to 1901 chairman of the Association of German Music Dealers . He also participated as a city judge as a councilor for the city of Leipzig.

For his extensive commitment he was among other things bearer of the Commander's Cross of the Franz-Joseph Order , received the Iron Cross 2nd Class, the Prussian Crown Order 2nd Class , the Prussian Red Eagle Order 3rd Class , Knight 1st Class from the Ducal Saxon Order of the White Falcon and officer from the Royal Saxon Order of Albrecht .
