Professional background

Arthur Andersen & Co. GmbH (1976–1991)

After completing his studies in 1976, Dieter Ammer worked for the Chicago auditing and consulting company Arthur Andersen & Co. GmbH in Hamburg until 1991, initially as an authorized signatory and from 1983 as an auditor. In 1987 he became a partner. Ammer worked for Arthur Andersen & Co. in the run-up to the Islamic Revolution in 1978 in Tehran, from where he was flown out in December 1978. From 1988 he founded new offices for Arthur Andersen & Co. in the former GDR . During his sabbatical at the end of 1991 Ammer went to Leningrad (now St. Petersburg ). In recent years, Ammer has also been the branch manager for Northern Germany at Arthur Andersen & Co.

Zucker AG Uelzen-Braunschweig and Nordzucker GmbH (1992–1997)

In 1992 Dieter Ammer moved to the board of directors of Zucker AG Uelzen-Braunschweig. In 1993, as CEO of Zucker AG Uelzen-Braunschweig, he succeeded in gaining further regional manufacturers and beet farmers for a merger. This later became Nordzucker AG . Ammer was also the spokesman for the supervisory board of Nordzucker GmbH, which at the time was the second largest German sugar supplier.

Beck brewery GmbH & Co. KG (1997-2002)

From 1997, Dieter Ammer was initially commercial director, then chairman of the management board of Brauerei Beck GmbH & Co KG . A year later, Ammer also became chairman of the supervisory board of Haake-Beck Brauerei GmbH. From 1999 to 2002 he was President of the German Brewers Association . In 2001 he was able to reconcile the interests of the 67 shareholders of Beck & Co. and sell the brewery to the Belgian brewery Interbrew for EUR 1.8 billion . After the sale, Ammer remained chairman of the management board at Brauerei Beck GmbH & Co. KG and was responsible for Interbrew's German business. Ammer also accompanied the purchase negotiations with the Gilde Brewery and was able to successfully use the negotiating power he had already demonstrated in the Nordzucker case. With the acquisition of the Gilde Brewery and the Diebels GmbH & Co. KG brewery, Interbrew rose to become the leading brewery group in Germany.

Tchibo Holding AG (2003-2007)

From 2003 to 2007 Dieter Ammer was CEO of Tchibo Holding AG and CEO of the operational Tchibo GmbH. There he successfully enlivened the concept of “a new world every week”. The concept became a profit maker: it generated more than half of the company's turnover. In addition, Tchibo succeeded in taking over the majority in Beiersdorf AG (including Nivea ) in 2003, under the leadership of Ammer . This also made him chairman of the supervisory board of Beiersdorf AG. Ammer developed the so-called Hamburg solution together with Wolfgang Peiner , the former Senator for Finance in the Senate headed by Ole von Beust , whereby Tchibo was supported by the Hamburg-owned HGV Hamburger Gesellschaft für Vermögens- und Beteiligungsmanagement mbH in the takeover against the American consumer goods group Procter & Gamble prevailed.

From the mid-2000s, the Tchibo concept was increasingly being imitated by other companies such as Aldi and Lidl . With the loss of the pioneering role in this segment, there was a decline in sales at Tchibo. After restructuring the company, Ammer resigned as CEO in 2007.

Conergy AG (1998-2010)

In 1998 Hans-Martin Rüter founded the solar company Conergy AG together with Dieter Ammer , in which Ammer assumed the position of chairman of the supervisory board from the start. In 2005 Conergy went public and raised 100 million euros in capital. In 2007 Conergy got into a crisis and lost a quarter of a billion euros. The reason for this crisis was the high indebtedness of many subsidiaries through involvement in too many new sectors, e.g. B. in the areas of wind energy and biogas. Drastic cost-cutting measures and a return to the core business with photovoltaic systems should lead Conergy out of the crisis. In November 2007, Ammer replaced Hans-Martin Rüter as chairman of the board, initially on an interim basis and later on a regular basis. In this position, Ammer managed to avert the impending bankruptcy in 2008. At the same time, the private investors Otto Happel as well as Andreas and Thomas Strüngmann joined as major shareholders. Conergy's loss in 2008 was still in the three-digit million range. Two years later, Ammer was able to achieve success in an effort to save the company and obtain the extension of the loans until the end of 2011. At that time, Ammer's term of office as CEO expired and he switched again to the Supervisory Board of Conergy AG. At this point in time, the German solar industry was already in a serious crisis. In 2012 Q-Cells filed for bankruptcy, 2013 Conergy, 2017 Solarworld . The once lucrative funding from the Renewable Energy Sources Act helped the solar industry to flourish for a short time in the mid-2000s. In the following decade, the entire industry fell rapidly. On the one hand, solar subsidies had not only been drastically cut in Germany; on the other hand, the low-cost Chinese competition that was subsidized by the government flooded the market.

In 2009 it became known that the public prosecutor's office was investigating the company's management on suspicion of insider trading and falsification of accounts. The leading managers at Conergy, including Ammer, at that time still chairman of the supervisory board, were accused of glossing over the business figures from 2006, which should have led to a profit on share sales in 2007. An introductory order was issued on November 20, 2008, but it was not until 2011 that the Hamburg public prosecutor's office brought charges of misconduct in connection with possible falsification of the accounts in 2006/2007. Ammer then immediately resigned most of his supervisory and advisory board mandates. At the joint request of the public prosecutor and the defense, Ammer was fully acquitted of all charges on October 28, 2015.

Founding of the Ammax Group (since 2000)

In 2000, Dieter Ammer founded Ammax Beteiligungsgesellschaft & Co. KG and Ammax Verwaltungs GmbH. As part of the Ammax asset management, the Ammax Group holds various majority and minority interests.

Bunting! Partners (since 2007)

After leaving Tchibo, Dieter Ammer and Oliver Melzer called the investment company Ammer! Partners into life. As an investor, Ammer! Partners specialize in security. So are and were bunting! Partners z. B. Shareholder in the energy company LichtBlick AG and Secusmart GmbH, a company that has developed security solutions for mobile communication. Secusmart could allegedly be sold to Blackberry for around 100 million US dollars , which made the Canadian manufacturer and marketer of mobile communication systems the world's most secure mobile phone provider. In addition, holdings were acquired (e.g. Netbreeze GmbH - later sold to Microsoft USA) or co-founded. There are other companies in the Ammer portfolio (e.g. SIMCOG Technologie GmbH, Gratenau & Hesselbacher GmbH).

Social entrepreneurship and activities in southern Africa

For many years, Dieter Ammer and his family have been involved in companies with a strong social focus, e.g. B. at Circle Products GmbH (Berlin) and the Social Venture Fund (ANANDA, Munich). Due to its strong ties to southern Africa, Ammer invests extensively in companies there. Under the umbrella of Trium Investments Ltd. Based in Johannesburg , South Africa, there are companies from the fields of renewable energies (Soulsquare, Rhino Energy Solutions Ltd. and KGE Solar Pumps Ltd.), pharmaceuticals supply (Trinity Pharma Ltd.) and Governance and Transparency (Inoxico Ltd.).
